Far Cry 5 – Outpost – Radar Station

Overview

Atop the high peaks of White Tail Mountains sits this once abandoned Military Radar Station, PIN-K0. Through the many years changing hands; first by the US military, then nomads, followed by party goers and lastly the Cult. They occupied it for it’s grand views over the region and opportunity to jam signals from broadcasting the area.

I worked closely with a Level Artist to collect real world reference and use it extensively to mold a layout to fit the gameplay I had in mind. The focus was around towers in which the player could zip line between them. Picking off enemies from all sides of the towers. Like my other outposts, I like to pick a theme with gameplay and push it to its limits.

My focus behind the combat for this space was primarily on long range between the towers, secondarily targeted towards close range when traversing the stations interiors. With the top of the mountain being so wide open, I wanted to make sure there were pockets of close quarters combat, but not claustrophobic in its entirety. This was an Outpost that really pushed the location size for FC5, but all drove as an example on what could be possible once development of FC6 started.

Side Mission – Destroy Satellite Dishes

While also working on the Outpost itself, I was responsible for an activity that happened after liberation. It involves destroying 3 of Jacobs satellite dishes, which are scattered across the 3 highest buildings.

In the mission I created the following for its completion:

  • Reusable functionality for watching the health of each radar asset.
  • Spawning reinforcing AI to attack at each step in the mission.
